Kay Thompson serves as the Executive Vice President of National Payor Strategy at HOPCo and the Senior Executive Director of the Banner CORE Center for Orthopedics. A seasoned healthcare executive, her focus is to drive revenue through innovative growth and value-based contracting strategies.
Prior joining HOPCo, Thompson served as Health Plan President and CEO of the Texas market for Tenet Healthcare. Thompson was charged with developing clinically integrated growth strategies in collaboration with the Tenet hospital and physician assets in Texas. She established a formalized structure and internal processes for communication and decision making among the hospital and physician leadership. Within the first two years she expanded the provider network, the geographic service area and the product portfolio to include Medicare Advantage and Health Insurance Exchange products.
Prior to her role at Tenet Healthcare, Thompson served as the Market President of Mountain States for Aetna, where she motivated a high-performing team, driving all aspects of the commercial and Medicare Advantage health plan with 955,000 members across five states. She managed a 5-state region for 15 years, where she achieved and maintained best-in-class discounts in key markets including Phoenix and Las Vegas and consistently achieved or surpassed annual medical cost ratio budgets.
Thompson obtained her Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration and Policy from Arizona State University.
