Austin T. Pittman thrives on the challenges of solving tough business and societal problems. He recognizes marketplace direction early, distills that intuitive understanding into to a vision that others can rally around, assembles the right resources, and delivers on often audacious goals. Austin works with people and teams to reach their highest levels of performance personally and professionally, while having a positive impact on the healthcare delivery system in the U.S. He is recognized for proven leadership that blends passion, vision, deep and broad industry knowledge, and consistent execution.

Most recently Austin was CEO of OptumCare, a UnitedHealth Group company that provides information and technology-enabled health services and care delivery. He was accountable for a $27 billion business, the largest ambulatory care and physician organization in U.S. At a pivotal time in the maturation of the business, Austin drove shared commitment in organizational direction and built the largest, most value- transformed, and financially successful clinical organization in America.

Previously, as CEO of United HealthCare Community & State, Austin led a $40 billion enterprise and one of the largest Medicaid platforms in country. In this role, he redesigned clinical programs to focus on communities, specific populations and individual people resulting in market leading growth and financial performance. Earlier Austin held leadership roles as President of United Health Network, Chief Growth Officer of United HealthCare Employer & Individual, and President & CEO of the Carolinas.

Austin joined UnitedHealth through its acquisition of Pacificare Health Systems where he rose through several positions to President of Texas and Oklahoma, most notably turning around, retooling, and restoring the Southwest Region business to profitable growth. Austin began his career in healthcare in clinical, community relations, and administrative leadership positions including Baylor Healthcare System in Dallas, Texas. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corp in college and following graduation.

In addition to his Venture & Board experience with Topsail Re, Shared Clarity, Inclusive Health, and MyConnections, Austin has been active in community and philanthropic activities. He serves on the McMurry University Board of Trustees as Member and Former Chair, the national 4H Board of Trustees, and previously the American Heart Association’s Mid-Atlantic Affiliate Board of Directors. He has been cited in the Wall Street Journal multiple times and is a frequent speaker at conferences, investor meetings, and universities. Austin holds a Master of Health Care Delivery Science from the Tuck School of Business/Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, an MS in Business & Human Relations at Amberton University, and a BA in Sociology from McMurry University.
