Physicians Regional Healthcare System and HOPCo Agree to Enhance and Expand Musculoskeletal Services in Southwest Florida

Adding third hospital to the PRHS network later this year

Naples, FL. (October 19, 2021) – Physicians Regional Healthcare System (PRHS) and Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company (HOPCo) have signed an agreement to enhance and grow musculoskeletal care in Southwest Florida. HOPCo is a leading provider of outcomes management, value-based health care solutions and care coordination for musculoskeletal practices, health systems and clinically integrated care networks.

The HOPCo team will begin collaborating with the musculoskeletal services team at the Pine Ridge and Collier hospitals in early October, creating specific care plans to guide each patient’s journey and support safety with a positive experience.  Later this year, Physicians Regional will take over operations of Landmark Hospital of Southwest Florida – currently a 50-bed long-term acute care hospital with four operating suites – where PRHS will transform operations from LTAC services to general acute care services, orthopedic and other surgical services, including an inpatient rehabilitation unit. The new location adds a third hospital within Physicians Regional Healthcare System and will be called Physicians Regional North.

“Our passion is delivering quality patient care to our community and we are excited to expand access to musculoskeletal care as we bring in more surgeons, specialists and a 50-bed hospital to our network,” said Scott Lowe, Market Chief Executive Officer of Physicians Regional Healthcare System. “HOPCo’s clinical and operational leadership, coupled with our network of physicians and hospitals, will allow our musculoskeletal program to create a high-quality patient experience with enhanced care coordination and clinical collaboration. Our providers will also have the ability to share best practices and benchmark statistics to enhance care for patients.”

HOPCo will also help Physicians Regional Healthcare System create a clinically integrated network (CIN) of physicians to advance a shift to value-based musculoskeletal care. A CIN is designed to optimize efficiency, coordinate care and improve communication with patients and providers.

“As the population in the Naples area continues to grow, we believe there is an increasing need for a comprehensive musculoskeletal program that can serve patients of all ages, and that is our goal,” said HOPCo President and Chief Transformation Officer, Dr. Wael Barsoum. “Whether it is joint replacement, spine care or sports medicine, we want to make sure individuals in the community have access to the highest quality care right where they live.”

Physicians Regional Healthcare System is continuing to enhance services and expand access to high quality care in Southwest Florida to support the growing population. Significant projects include the successful launch of an open heart program in 2020, continued advancement of the structural heart program, addition of cardiac STEMI at the Collier campus and ongoing investments in robotic and traditional surgical services. To meet the increasing need for capacity, by the end of 2022, the Pine Ridge campus will add 78 private licensed beds, including 16 ICU/CVICU capable and a 12 bed observation unit, and the Collier campus will add 30 private licensed beds.

Additionally, Physicians Regional has expanded its employed physician network to include opening two larger medical office buildings at Founders Square and on Pine Ridge while recruiting physicians to join the Physicians Regional Medical Group network. The opening of both of these buildings will allow additional access to primary care, walk-in clinics and access to advanced physician specialties within the community.
