Acquisition integrates advanced AI-driven patient engagement and operational tools into HOPCo’s expanding digital health and care navigation platforms

PHOENIX (Aug. 7, 2025) – Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company (HOPCo), the global leader in technology enabled musculoskeletal (MSK) outcomes management and value-based care, today announced the acquisition of Caro Health, a leading AI-powered digital health company based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This strategic acquisition marks a significant advancement in HOPCo’s continued mission to build the most comprehensive global digital health platform for care delivery and a significant expansion of HOPCo’s growing European care footprint.

Caro Health, founded in 2019, has quickly emerged as a leader in conversational AI transforming how patients and medical providers consume and analyze disparate sources of data for use in decision making and patient interactions. Its proprietary AI platform is designed to deliver seamless, personalized communication at scale, both externally with patients and internally for providers. Currently deployed with nearly 40 healthcare customers across the Netherlands and Belgium, Caro’s technology supports several clinical specialties, including orthopedics and other MSK subspecialties.

“Our partnership with HOPCo enables us to accelerate our technology, expand our reach, and deliver intelligent, personalized healthcare communication on a global scale – faster and more effectively than ever before,” said Thomas Goijarts, Co-founder and CEO of Caro Health. “It will also allow us to better serve our local customers here in the Netherlands and across Europe by leveraging HOPCo’s clinical expertise and comprehensive digital platform and services. This will help us stay focused on our core strengths while speeding up the development of patient-centric, value-based technology solutions. We’re excited to be part of the HOPCo Digital Health team as we work to replicate the success we’ve achieved in Europe, in the United States.”

Goijarts will serve as Head of Products for HOPCo Digital and will report to HOPCo’s Global CIO, and Caro co-founder Guusje van der Heijden, will lead customer success and delivery for HOPCo in Europe, supporting both HOPCo’s established European clients and expanding HOPCo’s digital platform and services to Caro’s existing customer base. HOPCo plans to grow its new office in Europe by increasing resources to expand its international business and strengthen partnerships with its global base of clients. As part of the deal, Caro’s platform and team will be fully integrated into HOPCo’s Digital Health Division, aiding in the ongoing AI augmentation of products like HOPCo Vitals®, myrecovery by HOPCo®, HOPCo’s EMR Ecosystem and its cloud-based infrastructure for practices, ambulatory surgery centers, and health systems.

“We have been hugely impressed with Caro’s thoughtful approach to integrating conversational AI into complex clinical workflows,” said Dr. Tom Harte, President of HOPCo Digital. “The Caro team has clearly demonstrated that, when partnering with physicians to combine best-in-class technology with deep clinical expertise, conversational and generative AI can enhance both patient experience and operational workflow. This enables both physicians and administrators to focus on delivering patient care.”

With digital partnerships across the US, UK, Australia, and Europe, and as the only platform offering comprehensive, turn-key value-based care programs for population health, HOPCo is redefining MSK care by improving outcomes and reducing costs at scale. The acquisition of Caro Health strengthens HOPCo’s global digital platform and is expected not only transform patient experience across its markets but also drive substantial operational efficiencies for all of its partners.

“At HOPCo, we are building the most comprehensive digital platform globally with end-to-end products and services necessary to support practices, ambulatory surgery centers, health systems, and payors – from patient management to top-tier Cloud-based security,” said Chris Martinez, Global Chief Information Officer at HOPCo. “The integration of Caro Health’s innovative technology across our full suite of digital products and services will accelerate our AI roadmap and enable us to better support our customers across the globe in delivering high-quality, cost-effective care. Our time-to-value is crucial to our overall success, and we will continue to make strategic acquisitions, develop new products, and hire world-class engineering talent.”
